A history of service.Bell Ophthalmic Technology, like many great American companies, got its start in the family garage. After World War II, Charles Bell, taking advantage of the GI Bill, was awarded an apprenticeship at Philadelphia based Reid Instrument Company. Charlie was trained as a machinist and used his skills to help manufacture hand held ophthalmoscopes and retinoscopes. Bell repaired ophthalmic instruments as a weekend sideline and eventually moved on to manage technical service for American Optical Company. He left AO in 1962 and established his own instrument repair business. Growth continued throughout the 70's as equipment sales supplemented the service business. In the 90's, Charlie's son, Chuck, assumed leadership of the company. Although representing high quality product lines are a priority at Bell, Chuck, like his father before him, realizes that the foundation of the company, and its most important building block is customer service - before, during, and after the sale. |
